This old polaroid shows C-47D 43-16062 buried in two meters of snow near the Delta airstrip, about 2 kms east from the Isachsen weather station on Ellef Ringnes Island, Nunavut, Canada. The photo is taken in 1965 by weather station veteran Jay Gatlin, most likely in April of that year, a few weeks after the sun returned. The tail number '316062' is clearly visible, as well as a large tear in the fuselage, just aft of the cockpit, made by the #1 propeller. After the crash of this aircraft on 9 October 1949, the passengers escaped through the rear passenger door, which is still open in this photo.
